What Does It Mean When A Light Blows Out?

Oh no, not again! Do you find yourself saying this quite frequently when a light bulb burns out somewhere in your home? Not only is it a paid to keep purchasing and replacing the bulb, it could mean the fixture is defective or that you have too much current running through your electrical system. What does that mean for you and your family? Find out below:

Another bulb burned out? But didn’t you just change it a few weeks ago? This is a common problem for lots of homeowners and it could indicate a serious electrical problem in your home. Here are a few reasons why you might be blowing through bulbs faster than you can replace them:
  • If you notice that one fixture in particular is causing bulbs to burn out frequently, it could mean that it’s simply a defective piece of equipment.
  • Notice that bulbs in more than one fixture are going out often? This could signify there is too much current going through the circuit. Use an electric meter to measure the current and if it’s above 120 volts, this could be the problem.
  • You may be screwing the bulbs in too tightly. Make sure you are tightening them so they are secure, but don’t overdo it.
  • Does the wattage or lumens on the bulb match the output of the fixture? This is important because the wrong bulb can cause excess heat to build up which could lead to a fire.
