In no time flat he'd finished the job, cleaned up and discarded the trash. Absolutely seamless. Generation 3's schedulers were phenomenal in schedule convenient times, confirming via phone and email. Payment was a breeze as well.
Good service providers are getting harder to come by but John B and Generation 3 were well priced and provided stellar service.”

“The last terrible storm let some water into a closet and got the light to buzzing (scary!) so we killed the circuit breaker. Joe L from Gen 3 came today - what a lovely visit!  He gave us options, closed off the dangerous outlet, and talked to us about the knob and tube wiring in our home. updating our service and provided estimates for it all which were documented and emailed to me.  No pressure, very informative about the situation and what the work might entail.  It is not cheap but you get what you pay for and I believe we will be calling again to upgrade the service in the not-too-distant future. Clean, nice, professional...could not be happier.”

“We hired GEN3 to rewire our entire house. and install some new recessed lighting. Josh did a great job, he was very professional and friendly. We will use GEN3 for all our future electrical needs.”

Family electricians make happy homeowners

Friendly employees make good teams and do great work and finally happy homeowners.

Happily working in a Basement replacing the safety switches panel and meter socket.

This is the equipment that had to be replaced because it was too small to meet the needs of the home

The new panel has plenty of extra space for the homeowner to grow into. This new equipment comes with a 10 year manufacturers warranty.

How much does an electrician cost

Nobody wants to pay too much but in home service you do get what you pay for. A good electrical contracting company will give you the total cost of the job upfront.

We come behind many bad electricians or handyman. Paying a low price for bad work can cost you twice as much in the end.

Crystal chandelier

Here's a chandelier we just installed with conduit on  a wooden ceiling. It looks awesome.

How to become an electrician.

Here is Jim one of our electricians helping, training, teaching Debbie our new assistant electrician. There is only one way to learn the electrical craft. Our team works together to train good people from within.

Say No to emergency electrical repairs.

Before the Summer heat hits take a second and look at your outside main electrical cable and meter. Does it look bad? It is much cheaper and less stressful to replace before it fails.

Fluorescent Lighting: Benefits and Safety Tips

Did you know that if one single compact fluorescent light was installed in every house, it would eliminate 800,000 cars worth of greenhouse gases each year? That’s an alarming number if you ask us. But while this type of lighting has comes with a plethora of benefits, there are some safe handling tips you need to know before dealing with them.

  • Right off the bat, it’s worth noting that CFLs can screw into a regular light socket so no major construction is required to install them.
  • Only use about 25% of the energy that an incandescent bulb uses.
  • Cost of bulbs are dropping while they are offered in a number of sizes and wattage equivalents.
  • Achieve more natural-looking light by choosing the right color temperature.
  • Last longer than most bulbs so replacements are few and far between.

Safety Tips
Fluorescent light bulbs contain trace amounts of mercury so it’s vital to handle them with care. Rather than disposing of them in a standard trash can, it’s recommended that they be recycled. Get in touch with your local recycling center to find out the best way to go about disposing your old bulbs.

What does the house look like after it is rewired

To rewire a home holes must be made in the walls and ceilings. This process can be stressful for homeowners but there is light at the end of the tunnel.

When all the wires are run and the power is back on GEN3 provides the 1st coat of patch. The picture in this room show typical electrical access point in a room after the our patching is done.

Our patching is not perfect. We like to get to with in 1/8 of an inch of the original wall surface. The picture above is a detailed picture of what that means.

A homes electrical system when brought up to code covers every wall and ceiling of a home. GEN3 take care to leave your home in a condition where a little touch up and a coat of paint will make your home whole again.

Just like we were never there only you will have more outlets, better lighting and a safer house. This what a home looks like after the professional residential electricians of GEN3 finish rewiring your home.

Power Outage Safety

We’re known to have some severe rain storms in Philadelphia during the spring season. After all, April showers bring May flowers, right? And heavy rains and strong winds are the perfect recipe for power outages than can leave thousands of homeowners in the dark. So, how you can you and your family stay safe during a blackout? Find out below:

  • Stay away from downed power lines. Even though they might seem harmless, never go near a downed line. In most cases, they are still active and filled with electricity so call your local utility company right away.
  • Have flashlights and batteries on hand. While lighting candles can give off light, they can be dangerous especially if left unattended.
  • In order to prevent food from spoiling, keep the fridge closed as often as possible.
  • Unplug electrical devices and appliances to prevent a surge once power is restored.
  • Stay put. Travel can be dangerous especially if traffic lights have also been affected by the storm.

Looking for an electrician in the Philadelphia area? At GEN3 Electric, our trained electricians understand any issues you have with the electric and lighting in your Philly home. Our technicians specialize in repairing, updating and servicing your home’s electrical wiring and lighting for indoor and outdoor residential buildings, old and new.

The 411 on TRRs

Each year, nearly 2,400 children suffer from severe shock and burns as a result of sticking foreign items into electrical receptacles. No matter how many times we try to teach our kids about electrical safety, we can’t deny the fact that they will continue to be curious. For this reason, if you have small children in your home we strongly recommend having tamper resistant receptacles installed.

What is a Tamper Resistant Receptacle (TRR)?
This type of electrical outlet provides automatic protection for your entire family. It looks like an ordinary outlet, but is designed with spring-loaded receptacle cover plates that close when nothing is plugged in. This feature makes it difficult for young children to stick their fingers, toys or other objects inside.

How Do They Work?
When equal pressure is applied to both slots, the cover plates open to allow electrical devices to be plugged in. If pressure is not added simultaneously, the plates will remain closed.

How Much Do They Cost?
These specialized outlets only cost about 50 cents more than a standard outlet so replacing every receptacle in the home would only run you about $50. Keep in mind that most traditional outlets can replaced for as little as $2 per outlet. It’s worth the price to keep your kids safe if you ask us!

Interested in converting to tamper resistant receptacles? Let the expert electricians at GEN3 Electric take care of it for you! We specialize in outlet/switch repair and replacement so give us a call today at 215-512-4102.

“Good old fashioned customer service is alive and well at Gen3 Electric. Job was estimated at a fair price , scheduled a week or so later . Electricians , Dave and Mitch showed up on time preceded by a courtesy call, went right to work and did everything and a bit more than was on the estimate to the penny. Couldn't be happier with the job they did. Great company to deal with from the first phone call to completion of the job. Will not hesitate to call them again if a need arises.”

“I used Generation 3 to do a few small projects (hang a chandelier, install a new high hat light, and change a switch).  From the quick response, to scheduling to John who came out to my house everything was outstanding.  Everything was done efficiently and to my specifications.  Would definitely call them again for any electrical need in the future.  Thanks!”

“Generation 3 Electric has done all of the installation of the beautiful lighting in our condo, and we have been thrilled with it.  We recently had a problem with one of our pendant lights, and the electrician, John, handled it quickly and professionally.  I was also impressed with the email  received from the company prior to his visit, giving me his name and photo ahead of time - great idea!  John arrived when expected, and even brought his own ladder.  He was able to fix the problem quickly and easily. I would not hesitate to give Gen3 my highest recommendation.”
