Outdoor Electrical Service Philadelphia

In Philadelphia, we are lucky enough to enjoy four varying seasons. But have you ever thought about how the changes in weather affect your outdoor electrical equipment? There are a few options when it comes to exposed equipment - some are much safer than others.

Take a look outside. Can you find where your electrical wiring meets and enters your home? Chances are, the 200 amp service cable is enclosed in a metal conduit or a PVC pipe. While both options are commonly used, we believe metal conduits are safer. Here’s why:

PVC Piping
When exposed to the elements, PVC can become brittle and crack. It’s also susceptible to ice build up. Over time, the plastic straps that are often used to keep the main service mast in place can break away and cause serious electrical problems for homeowners. If this has happened to you, you need to have the service entrance replaced right away.

Metal Conduit
This option won’t become brittle and will last much longer than PVC. Metal conduit installation prices will add to the up-front cost but it’s worth it in our opinion. Consider upgrading if your home’s electrical equipment is exposed to harsh outside elements.
