Electrical Safety Tips For Your New Years Party

Bringing in the New Year with a wonderful party for your closest friends and family members? We hope you have a great time tonight and you stay SAFE! Because electrical safety is one of our top priorities we must remind you to abide by these tips, especially when hosting a party:

  • Only plug one heat-producing appliance in at a time
  • Check electrical cords to make sure they are not running across doorways or under carpets. Not only can your guests trip of the wires, they can also be an electrical hazard if used improperly
  • Check to make sure your light bulbs match the recommended wattage on the lamp or fixture. If the wattage on the light bulb is higher, it can cause a fire
  • If you experience flickering or dimming lights, or smell something burning coming from your appliances call a qualified electrician immediately

Now that you’ve taken a proactive approach to making sure your electrical devices are safe, you can focus on the party! If you notice anything suspicious or aren’t sure if something was installed properly, give GEN3 Electric a call at 215-512-4102. Make sure you didn’t forget any of the food or beverages!

Holiday Tips To Keep Your Children Safe!

“Deaths relating to fires caused by children at play are surprisingly high during the winter months. In December the number is double its year-round average,” according to ESFi. For a child, there is absolutely nothing better than getting your favorite toy to play with during the holidays, and there’s no better feeling for a parent than seeing your child happy. However, there are a few safety tips you must follow in order to ensure that your children remain safe this holiday season.

To eliminate the risk of burns and electrical shock:
  • Do not give children under the age of 10 a toy that has to be plugged in, buy battery operated toys instead
  • Make sure each toy has a fire safety label from an independent testing laboratory
  • Be cognizant when placing candles or holiday lights around your home. Make sure to place them out of reach of your small children

Follow these tips to enjoy a happy and safe holiday with your family. If you notice any electrical problems with a toy or around your house, don’t hesitate to give GEN3 Electric a call. We’ll get your home restored quickly so you won’t have to worry any longer! Don’t forget to connect with us on Google+ for more electrical safety updates.

Dimmers for different Bulb types

These 2 dimmers look the same but are completely different.

Right side: Incandescent(regular light bulbs) only
Left side: LED and CFL compatible

How do you tell the difference?
It is written on the dimmers....

Magnetic ballasts: Use ONLY dimming ballasts shown on chart
in step 2 of Pre-Installation. Do not mix 1 and 2 lamp ballasts in
any one dimmer circuit. Do not mix ballasts manufactured by more
than one company. Using single lamp ballasts will produce the
most consistent low end dimming level.

Kitchen Lighting

Lighting up a small kitchen

Kitchen lighting is one of the most overlooked but powerful elements you can add to a small kitchen.

Here in this kitchen we have added lighting above, in and below the kitchen cabinets. The effect of this lighting makes the kitchen feel more spacious. This kitchen is in a Philadelphia  row home where the natural light is coming in the side yard window is partially blocked by the neighboring row.

The other challenge in this kitchen was the brick party wall. To get the wiring in the party wall GEN3 had to channel the plaster and install conduit.

Bad Outlets

Sometimes electrical outlets can pass inspection and be installed in your home even if there is a manufacturer’s defect. This is an especially dangerous situation because you would think a brand new electrical device should be problem-free right? Often times, manufacturer errors go unnoticed and can lead to electrical fires in your home because of a bad outlet.

In this short video, you’ll see a perfect example of a manufacturer’s defect that went unnoticed until the outlet started to melt:

With the air conditioner plugged into a different outlet there seemed to be no reason for this outlet to become an electrical hazard. Prevent melted devices and the risk of electrical fires in your home by calling on GEN3 Electric to perform a thorough electrical inspection in your home.

Post Lighting

Post Light installation

How to install a new post light fixture at the end of you sidewalk

Uploaded image: No description set.

Here are some pictures of a new post light being installed, Lafayette Hill PA. To add this post light a ditch was dug for an electrical conduit. The conduit is there to protect the direct burial wire from any accidental damage in the future. After the conduit and outdoor light fixture are installed. The wire is covered over and the top layer of grass is relayed. By spring the grass will grow over the and the lawn will look like new.

Installing outdoor lighting improves your homes curb appeal while make you and your neighborhood safer at night. Installing an outdoor post light will cost anywhere between $1,000-$1,500 but this is money well spent.
