May is Electrical Safety Awareness Month - Part 2

Advanced Electrical Safety Updates for Your Home

As a follow up to our Electrical Safety Month blog last week, GEN3 wants to continue to raise awareness of electrical hazards in your home. There are certain advanced safety technologies that can be installed in your home to protect your youngest and oldest loved ones:
  •  Tamper Resistant Receptacles (TRR) – look just like ordinary outlets, but are designed with spring-loaded receptacle cover plates that close off the receptacle openings, or slots, protecting little fingers and tiny objects from being inserted into the energized part of the outlet.
  • Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) – prevent deadly shock by quickly shutting off power to the circuit if the electricity flowing into the circuit differs by even a slight amount from that returning. A GFCI should be used in any indoor or outdoor area where water may come into contact with electrical products, ie. kitchens, bathrooms, garages, and outdoors.
  •  Arc Fault Circuit Interrupter (AFCI) – Due to modern electrical devices, many existing homes are simply overwhelmed by today’s electrical demands, putting them at greater risk of arc faults and arc-induced fires. Arc fault circuit interrupters, or AFCIs, are devices that provide a higher level of protection by detecting hazardous arcing conditions and shutting down the electricity before a fire can start.
In order to prevent electrical hazards and protect your house and family, a basic understanding of your home’s unique electrical system is important. Visit our web site and learn how you can get a GEN3 Home Electrical Report Card performed on your home to identify and correct electrical hazards.
