The Boss Got Dirty?

Chelli the service rep in the office was very shocked to see the owner dirty. Yes! I do spend most of my time working on the business, doing managerial duties, but form time to time I go out in the field an help train the  newer technicians. If you want something done right you don't have to always do it your self but you do have to show others how it is done. So today I helped the team rewired the third floor of a house.  Sometimes you have to get dirty to get rid of that nasty knob and tube wiring.

Doing some electrical work

Why the AFCI Circuit

 keeps tripping !@#$%

New homes are now coming with a new style circuit breaker. They are called AFCI and they do not work the same way as the older style circuit breakers. Older circuit breaker turned off when you reached the maximal amount of amp allowed on a circuit. A 15amp circuit turned off when you tried to use 15.1amp.

AFCI circuit breakers have electronics in them that sense not only your maximum power limit but also  how your power is being used. The pattern electricity makes on an oscilloscope is different depending on what you are running. Electrical arcing or sparking also has a unique power signature.

It is difficult to find the cause of AFCI tripping. Currently they do false trip more then I like and some brands work better than others. The first think to look for is loose connections.  Here is an example of the most common cause of AFCI tripping.

This is the close up video of the loose connection.
How a tight electrical connection will look. This did fix the AFCI tripping problem.

Ceiling Fan install

By Josh

This is josh. He is new to the company. We reviewed over 200 resumes. Preformed skilled test and personality profile test.  He was interviewed by 3 different key employees and a 2 week working interview before he was offed a position.

Josh can install ceiling fans Better then that he can install ceiling fans in your home. He can install ceiling fans  with a smile. He can install ceiling fans without making a mess. He can install ceiling fans in a safe and professional manor. We know this because we work hard to find someone who we trusted to be part of the Generation 3 Electric Team.

As an added bonus Josh will take your ceiling fan boxes and trash so you don't have to worry about the mess. Don't worry your trash it is in good hands. Josh goes the extra step by separating your ceiling fans trash so it can get recycled.

Rewire House in Fairmount, Philadelphia

This is a home in Philadelphia that was originally wired at the turn of the century.  We have been contacted by the owner to get rid of the old knob and tube wiring. This home owner is having the work done before  moving in. To make this job easier the ceiling has been removed.  With the ceiling exposed we were able to find some of the original gas lighting lines. The new lighting will consist of 25 recessed light. What a difference a century makes.

We will be posting more picture of this home in the coming weeks. Please come back and check out the project.
