Electrical service Original to this home built in the 1960

Original Wadsworth Fuse Box

Here is an electrical Service that has not been updated since the original building of this 1950/60 row home. The electrical service back then was installed with fuses and not circuit breaks. This home has about 6 branch circuits. A modern home this size can have up to 30 branch circuits. The home owner was looking to have Air conditioning installed to her home. For that she will need to add more circuits to her home. In general everything on the electrical system was kept in good shape. This home owner did not add many of the modern electrical appliances that would tax an older service.

The outside of the house was another story. Here you can see how damaged the original service equipment has become exposed to the elements. The electricity still flows but this house is running on bare tires so to speak. Just like driving a car that is not in safe mechanical condition, there are many dangers in an old electrical system. This service is 60 years old. It is our recommendation that electrical service be replaced every 30 to 40 years. Your electrical service is safety equipment. There have been many updates to this level of safety we expect since this 100 amp service was installed. Back to the car analogy, this electrical service is the equivalent in safety to driving a 1960s car with drum brakes, No seat belts  and No air bags
