Subject: Voltage Requirements

Name: Amy

Question: Hi Bill,I need to buy a washer/dryer unit for an investment property. The only outlet is a I have and the breaker box is full. If we buy anything larger or two units, we will need to upgrade out breaker box and add another outlet. I am looking at the option of a stacked unit with one plug but the one I am looking at states the dryer uses a 120/208 or 120/240 volt power supply. Does that mean I'd still have to create a new breaker box and add an outlet with a higher amp capacity? I thank you in advance for your response.

Answer: Hi Amy,I'm afraid that you will need to install a larger breaker box. Your best option is to call in an electrician and ask for an estimate and see if the job can be done without a new panel. I think you should get a price for the service either way. If your filled up now it is a good idea to up-grade before your panel is over loaded. Remember safety first when you are working with electricity. Electrical problem are best avoided.
